Terms of Service
Written to be read rather than skimmed past. If something here seems unreasonable, tell us — we would rather fix a clause than win an argument.
The short version. Play nicely, be honest about your age, don't make accounts you aren't entitled to, and don't try to break the app. Your subscription renews until you cancel it, and you cancel it through Apple or Google. We may change or discontinue features, but we'll give you notice for anything that matters. Nothing here removes your statutory consumer rights.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and HoneyRoll ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the HoneyRoll mobile application, this website and any related services (together, the "Service"). By downloading, installing or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement and Google Play's Terms of Service also apply to your download and in-app purchases, and where those platform terms conflict with these Terms regarding the platform's own billing, the platform's terms govern.
2. Eligibility and age requirements
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. In jurisdictions where the digital age of consent is higher (up to 16 in parts of the EU and UK), you must meet that local age.
- You must be at least 18 years old to access After Dark content. Age is verified on both accounts before access opens.
- If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
- You confirm you are not barred from using the Service under any applicable law, and that you are not on any applicable sanctions list.
- Misrepresenting your age — particularly to unlock After Dark content — is a material breach of these Terms and may result in immediate termination.
3. Your account and partner pairing
- You may use the Service with an email account or an anonymous account. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure, and for keeping your device passcode and biometric settings under your control.
- Pairing links two accounts into a shared game. Only pair with someone who has knowingly and willingly agreed to play with you. Using the Service to harass, monitor, pressure or coerce another person is a serious breach and grounds for immediate termination.
- You must not share or transfer your account, or use another person's account.
- You may unpair or leave a pairing at any time from Settings. Leaving a pairing stops shared sync; local data on your own device remains yours.
- One person, one account. Creating multiple accounts to evade a suspension, a block, or a billing obligation is prohibited.
4. Subscriptions, billing and cancellation
4.1 Plans
- Free. No payment, no expiry. Includes the full classic board, Safe and Spicy modes, a limited selection of soundtracks and lighting themes, and all privacy features.
- Premium. $14.99 USD per month, or $89.99 USD per year. Unlocks all board themes, all soundtracks and lighting themes, After Dark, long-distance play with voice, custom task creation and history export.
- Couple Pass. $16.99 USD per month. Includes everything in Premium and covers two linked accounts under a single subscription.
Prices may vary by region and are shown in your local currency before you confirm. Prices may change; we will give you notice before a change takes effect and you may cancel beforehand.
4.2 Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your payment method is charged through your Apple or Google account, not by us directly.
4.3 Cancellation
You can cancel at any time from inside the app (Settings → Subscription → Manage) or through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal; access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not operate a retention maze and we do not require you to contact support to cancel.
4.4 Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their respective policies, since they process the payment. In the EU and UK you also have statutory rights, including a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases in most cases — noting that by starting to use digital content immediately you may be asked to acknowledge the loss of that right. If a refund is refused and you believe that's wrong, contact us and we will help you escalate.
4.5 Couple Pass specifically
- Couple Pass covers the two accounts in a single active pairing at the time of purchase. If you unpair and pair with a different person, the second seat can be reassigned, subject to reasonable abuse limits (reassignment is available once per billing period).
- We may not charge two people for one relationship — that is the point of this plan — but we also may not be used as a shared subscription across multiple unrelated pairings.
4.6 Trials and promotions
Any discounted first month, promotional code or trial is available once per account and only where legitimately offered. Promotions have no cash value and may be withdrawn for new purchases at any time.
5. Licence to use the Service
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service on devices you own or control, for your own private, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and the applicable app store rules. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or attempt to derive the source code of the Service, except to the extent permitted by law;
- circumvent age verification, consent gates, subscription checks or any other technical protection measure;
- use the Service to harass, threaten, stalk, coerce, demean or harm another person;
- upload or create content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, or that sexualises minors in any way;
- record, screenshot, stream or publicly republish another person's card responses, private ratings or After Dark activity without their explicit consent;
- use the Service if you are required to register as a sex offender under applicable law;
- scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service, or interfere with its normal operation, security or availability;
- resell, sublicense or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
We may suspend or terminate access for any breach of this section.
7. Content standards and After Dark
HoneyRoll is an intimate product and we take the boundaries around it seriously.
- Consent is not optional. Every participant in a game must be a willing, informed adult participant. If your partner says no, stops, or uses the safeword, that is final and immediate.
- After Dark content is intended for adults in a consensual relationship, for private use. It is not pornography and must not be reproduced, published or distributed.
- Hard No functionality exists so nobody has to repeatedly defend a boundary. Deliberately engineering ways around another person's Hard No list is a breach of these Terms.
- Nothing in the Service is a substitute for your own judgement about your own safety. You remain responsible for your physical and emotional wellbeing and that of your partner. Stop whenever you want to.
8. Safety, health and relationship disclaimer
HoneyRoll is a game and an entertainment product. It is not therapy, counselling, medical advice, psychological treatment or a substitute for professional care. We are not a healthcare provider and no relationship between you and us is created by using the Service.
If you are experiencing abuse, coercion or a mental health crisis, please contact local emergency services or a qualified professional. We can point you to resources in our help center, but we cannot provide crisis support.
9. Your content
- Anything you create in the Service — custom task cards, notes, nicknames, exports — remains yours. We claim no ownership of it.
- You grant us only the limited licence needed to operate the Service for you: to store it locally, and where you use a sync feature, to relay it encrypted between your paired devices. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
- You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use anything you upload or create.
- If you share a custom card pack with the community, you grant other users a licence to use that pack within the Service, and you grant us a licence to display, moderate and distribute it. You can stop sharing at any time, which stops future distribution.
10. Our intellectual property
The Service, including the HoneyRoll name and logo, the board designs, card decks, artwork, soundtracks, lighting themes, code and documentation, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property law. These Terms grant you no rights in our trademarks, brand or content except the limited licence in section 5.
11. Availability, changes and discontinuation
- We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Maintenance, third-party outages and events beyond our control may cause downtime.
- We may add, change or remove features. For changes that materially reduce what you get, we will give reasonable advance notice in the app, and where you have a paid subscription we will offer a pro-rata refund or let you cancel with effect from the change.
- If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give at least 30 days' notice and refund any unused prepaid subscription period.
- Long-distance sync and voice features depend on third-party infrastructure and network conditions and may degrade. Voice is not a substitute for emergency communication.
12. Third-party services
The Service integrates with the App Store, Google Play and, in some configurations, third-party platforms such as smart lighting providers. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them. Where a third-party integration requires your account credentials, you authorise that connection and may revoke it at any time.
13. Disclaimers
Except where prohibited by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your expectations, that card content will suit your relationship, or that results will be any particular outcome.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded — including your statutory consumer rights in the EU, UK, Australia, Canada and elsewhere.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill or emotional harm, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 50.
We do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your infringement of another person's rights — including claims brought by someone you paired with. This does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own negligence or breach.
16. Termination
- You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy → Erase all data.
- We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you materially breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if continuing would put other users at risk.
- Where we terminate without cause and you have prepaid, we will refund the unused portion.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits and governing law — will survive.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of Ireland have jurisdiction, except that:
- if you are a consumer resident in the EU or UK, you may bring proceedings in your country of residence and benefit from the mandatory consumer protections of that country;
- if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, local mandatory consumer law continues to apply.
Most disputes start as confusion. Please write to [email protected] first — we aim to resolve complaints within 30 days. EU and UK consumers may also use their national alternative dispute resolution body.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the Service or the law. For material changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that point means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not, you may cancel and, where applicable, request a refund of any unused prepaid period.
19. Miscellaneous
- Severability. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger or acquisition, with notice to you.
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us regarding the Service.
- Language. These Terms are drafted in English. Translations are provided for convenience; the English version prevails.
